The Jaspers (8-7, 2-1 MAAC) play their fourth game in eight days tonight at McCann Arena against six-time defending MAAC champion Marist (8-6, 3-0 MAAC). Manhattan saw its six-game winning streak end with a 63-59 loss to Fairfield on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes have won 27 straight games against MAAC opponents, including an 82-56 victory at Rider on Saturday. Marist is one of two undefeated teams in MAAC play, while Manhattan enters the game tied for third place.
THE MANHATTAN JASPERS
Manhattan (8-7, 2-1 MAAC) had its six-game winning streak snapped, 63-59, by Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium. That loss was the Jaspers' first since they fell to New Hampshire on Dec. 9. Manhattan is led by senior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer, who paces the team in scoring (13.1 ppg), rebounding (6.3 rpg) and assists (2.5 apg). Loutsenhizer played in her 100th consecutive game against Fairfield. Sophomore guard Monica Roeder contributes 11.6 points per game, while senior guard/forward Schyanne Halfkenny averages 9.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. Halfkenny leads the team with 12.0 points per game in MAAC play. Senior forward Nadia Peters tallies 7.2 points per and 5.6 rebounds per outing, while also leading the Jaspers in both steals (2.6 spg) and blocks (1.1 bpg). Junior guard Maggie Blair and sophomore guard Allison Skrec both hand out 2.5 assists per contest.
THE MARIST RED FOXES
Six-time defending MAAC champion Marist (8-6, 3-0 MAAC) has won its last 27 games against conference opponents, including an 82-56 victory at Rider on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes are currently tied for first place with Fairfield. Senior guard Corielle Yarde, the two-time reigning MAAC Player of the Week, is the conference's leading scorer. She averages 15.2 points per game. Yarde also leads the MAAC in assists (4.8 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (2.2) while pacing the Red Foxes in rebounding (6.6 rpg), blocks (1.1 bpg) and steals (1.7 spg). Senior forward Brandy Gang contributes 10.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, while sophomore guard Leanne Ockenden tallies 8.4 points per outing. Ockenden also leads the Red Foxes with 1.8 three-pointers per game and is shooting .379 from long range. Sophomore guard Casey Dulin ranks second on the team with 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per contest.
SERIES HISTORY
Marist swept the season series in 2010-11 and has won 16 of the last 17 meetings between the squads. However, the Jaspers hold a 22-19 edge all-time. The Jaspers were the last MAAC team to beat Marist, posting a 65-62 victory over the Red Foxes at Draddy Gymnasium on Feb. 28, 2010. Manhattan is looking for its first win in Poughkeepsie since a 72-63 triumph on Feb. 21, 2003.
LAST TIME OUT
The Jaspers saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with a 63-59 loss to Fairfield at Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Trailing by three with 21 seconds left, Manhattan took its last timeout to set up a final shot. However, the Jaspers turned the ball over, and Fairfield capped the 63-59 victory at the free throw line. The contest was tight throughout, as there were a total of eight ties and 13 lead changes and neither side held an advantage of more than seven points the entire way. Schyanne Halfkenny matched a career-high with 15 points. She also collected a team-high seven rebounds. Monica Roeder tallied 14 points, while Lindsey Loutsenhizer added 11 points and five boards. The loss, the Jaspers' first in nearly a month, snapped Manhattan's five-game home winning streak.
