The Jaspers (9-11, 3-5 MAAC) make the short trip to Jersey City this afternoon for a matchup with Saint Peter's (2-17, 2-6 MAAC). Manhattan, which is looking to snap a three-game losing streak, is coming off a 58-49 loss at Fairfield on Friday. The Peahens have dropped two straight, including a 62-50 defeat at Siena on Friday. Manhattan is playing its second consecutive road game for the first time since early December and begins a three-game homestand against Siena on Thursday.
THE MANHATTAN JASPERS
Manhattan (9-11, 3-5 MAAC) concludes its brief two-game road trip looking to get back on track after a 58-49 loss at Fairfield on Friday. The Jaspers have dropped three straight and five out of six. Senior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer scored her 1,250th career point against Fairfield. She leads the Jaspers with 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Loutsenhizer also paces the team with 2.5 assists per contest and ranks second in the MAAC in three-point percentage (.419). Sophomore guard Monica Roeder, who's one three-pointer awy from 100 for her career, adds 10.6 points and 1.9 treys per game, while senior guard/forward Schyanne Halfkenny notches 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing. Senior forward Nadia Peters is second in the MAAC in steals, averaging 2.4 per game. She also leads the Jaspers in blocks (1.1 bpg) and ranks third on the squad in rebounding (5.0 rpg). Manhattan begins a three-game homestand against Siena on Thursday.
THE SAINT PETER'S PEAHENS
Saint Peter's (2-17, 2-6 MAAC) has dropped two straight since picking up its first two victories of the season. The Peahens are coming off a 62-50 loss at Siena on Friday. Senior forward Jynae Judson is the Peahens' top scorer and rebounder. She averages 15.2 points and 6.5 boards per contest. Judson also notches a team-best 1.7 steals per game and ranks second on the squad in assists (2.8 apg). Senior center Quiana Porter contributes 7.1 points and 5.5 rebounds to go along with a team-leading 1.1 blocks per outing, while junior forward Kristal Edwards tallies 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals a night. Sophomore guard Aziza May distributes 2.9 assists per game to lead the Peahens, and sophomore guard Khadijah Young is the team's best three-point shooter. She drains 1.3 treys per game and is shooting .304 from downtown. Today starts a span where Saint Peter's plays five out of seven games at home.
SERIES HISTORY
The Jaspers swept the season series with the Peahens in 2010-11, notching a 58-44 victory at the Yanitelli Center and a 64-54 triumph at Draddy Gymnasium. Overall, Manhattan has won four straight against Saint Peter's. This is the 71st all-time meeting in a series that began in the 1978-79 campaign. Saint Peter's leads the all-time series 50-20.
LAST TIME OUT
Manhattan suffered its third straight loss, 58-49 at Fairfield on Friday. Fairfield jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before the Jaspers battled back within two at 10-8. However, the Stags responded with a 17-5 rally to open up a 14-point lead, and Fairfield had a 32-18 advantage at halftime. Schyanne Halfkenny scored Manhattan's first nine points of the second half to bring the Jaspers within nine, 36-27, but the Stags rallied to extend their cushion to a game-high 16 points, 50-34, with 5:45 left. Manhattan responded with a 13-2 run to get within five, 52-47, with 1:30 remaining, but Fairfield went 6-for-6 at the free throw line down the stretch to seal a 58-49 win. Halfkenny and Lindsey Loutsenhizer each had 14 points to lead the Jaspers, while Loutsenhizer also grabbed seven rebounds.
