Box Score
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan scored twenty seconds in to their match with Fairleigh Dickinson but were unable to hold the momentum as they fell 2-1 to the Bulldogs on Friday night.
Eugene Heerschapp netted his first collegiate goal in the first minute when Tommy Amos slipped the ball past the defenders for his classmate who knocked it off the right post and past the goalkeeper for just the second goal of the season for the Jaspers (0-6-0).
FDU countered in the 10th minute with a goal to knot the score at 1-1. Jonathan Gonzalez sent a pass towards the center of the box that looked to be going over the net but hit the crossbar. The ricochet fell to Miguel Escobar who buried it in the open net.
As the game went to break, both teams continuously put shots on net despite a rain drenched field in Teaneck, N.J. Out of the break, the Knights went in to attack mode and repayed Manhattan for their quick strike at the start. In the 46th minute, Nico Wright delivered a perfect feed to Jack McVey who was able to put the go-ahead goal past keeper George Ellis.
In the first game that a goalkeeper played all 90 minutes, Ellis saved 8 shots while allowing the two goals. Fairleigh Dickinson's Jacob Lissek settled in after the opening goal making a total of two saves in his full game played.
Fairleigh Dickinson controlled the offensive pace the majority of the night outshooting the Jaspers 22-8 in the game and even had 8 corner kicks to Manhattan's six.
The Jaspers will be back in action on Sunday Sept. 23 as they host the Bryant University Bulldogs at 10 a.m. at Gaelic Park.
