GAMEDAY
Manhattan (3-6) continues its season-long five-game homestand tonight against Cornell (3-5). The Jaspers are looking for their second straight victory, having knocked off Monmouth, 71-59 in overtime, on Saturday night. The Big Red also notched a win in their last game, a 65-45 decision against Bucknell on Sunday. This marks the third consecutive season in which these teams are meeting in the final game before the holidays. After an eight-day break, the Jaspers return to action against St. Francis (NY) on Dec. 28.
THE MANHATTAN JASPERS
The Jaspers (3-6) snapped a three-game skid with a 71-59 overtime victory against Monmouth on Saturday. Senior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer paces Manhattan in both scoring and rebounding. She averages 12.3 points and 6.6 boards per contest. Loutsenhizer also ranks second on the team with 2.8 assists per game. Sophomore guard/forward Monica Roeder tallies 12.1 points per game and leads the Jaspers with 2.1 three-pointers per outing, while senior guard/forward Schyanne Halfkenny contributes 8.8 points per contest. Senior forward Nadia Peters, who is playing in her 100th career game tonight, grabs 5.8 rebounds per game to go along with team-leading totals of 1.2 blocks and 2.3 steals per contest. Junior guard Maggie Blair leads the Jaspers in assists, distributing 3.9 a night. Following tonight's contest, Manhattan has eight days off before resuming its five-game homestand against St. Francis (NY) on Dec. 28.
THE CORNELL BIG RED
Cornell (3-5), which posted a 65-45 home win over Bucknell on Sunday afternoon, begins a six-game road trip tonight. Sophomore guard Allison DiMagno leads the Big Red in scoring, averaging 11.1 points per game. She also ranks second in the Ivy League with 7.3 rebounds per contest and averages a team-best 1.9 steals a night. Junior forward Clare Fitzpatrick is second on the squad in both categories. She contributes 10.9 points and 6.6 boards per outing. Fitzpatrick also averages a team-best 1.4 blocks per game. Senior forward Maya Anyanwu has the best field goal percentage in the Ivy League (.526) and tallies 9.9 points per outing. Junior guard Spencer Lane hands out 3.8 assists per game, and sophomore guard Shelby Lyman dishes out 2.5 assists per contest. Lyman also leads the Big Red with 1.8 treys per outing, while junior guard Taylor Flynn is shooting .435 from beyond the arc. Cornell has used the same starting lineup in every game this season.
SERIES HISTORY
Manhattan and Cornell are meeting in the final game before the holiday break for the third straight season. The all-time series is tied 1-1, with the road team having won each prior meeting. The Big Red posted a 71-67 victory at Draddy Gymnasium on Dec. 19, 2009, while the Jaspers returned the favor with a 73-45 win in Ithaca on Dec. 21, 2010.
LAST TIME OUT
Manhattan snapped its three-game losing streak with a 71-59 overtime victory against Monmouth at Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday night. The score was tied at 56-56 with 30 seconds remaining and Manhattan held for one shot. However, Monica Roeder's attempt was off the mark and Monmouth grabbed the rebound with 2.3 seconds left. The Hawks weren't able to inbound though, giving the ball back to the Jaspers. Manhattan was unable to get a shot off, and the contest went to overtime. The Jaspers dominated the extra session, outscoring Monmouth 71-59 to earn the victory. Monica Roeder had a game-high 17 points, while Schyanne Halfkenny tallied a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Ondya Morgan added 10 points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds in her first collegiate start.
