RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In what has been a very successful year for Manhattan Men's swimming, the Jaspers continued their role on Saturday with a dominant 106-86 victory over St. Francis (NY) at Riverdale Country School.
Despite winning just five of 11 events, the Jaspers were able to use their depth on the roster to ensure multiple point getters in each event. The team of Cullen Balcanoff, Dennis Daly, Scott Isaacs and Robert Varieur paced Manhattan throughout the meet beginning with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The Jaspers would also get a second place finish in the event from the team of Chris Fusco, Mike Mackay, Michael Dalia and Mike Scire.
Varieur added another 50 yard freestyle victory to his 2011-12 campaign with a dazzling time of 22.78 seconds finishing just .24 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Mackay was also a double victor on the afternoon taking first place in the 200 individual medley while Isaacs finished the 100 yard backstroke one-tenth ahead of his competition with a time of 58.10 seconds.
The Jaspers lone other winner was PJ Sweeney who blazed past all other swimmers in the 1000 yard freestyle. Sweeney completed the event in 10:24.74 while RJ Meany, who took second, finished with a time of 10:42.08.
Manhattan (9-3) has won three meets in a row and will now travel to NJIT to take on the Highlanders in Newark, N.J. on Sunday.
