RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Going in to the weekend, the Manhattan Women's swimming team was still looking for their first win of November. They did not have to wait long as they won the opening event en route to a 103-76 victory. The win snapped a five meet losing streak that dated back in to October.
The Jaspers (5-8) got ahead early as the team of Kerry Schuermann, Mary Kate O'Leary, Bridget Latino and Vanessa L'Heureux won the opening 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.47. It would mark the first of six events Manhattan swimmers would win.
Molly Russell was also victorious in the in the 1000 yard freestyle, while Latino also picked up individual wins in the 200 yard freestyle, and 100 yard butterfly. L'Heureux was another double-winner for the Jaspers finishing first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.42 seconds.
The other winner for Manhattan was Nadine Maher who was the only swimmer to complete 100 yard freestyle in under a minute (59.37).
The Jaspers swimmers will be back in the pool tomorrow (Sat. Nov. 19) when they host St. Francis (NY) at 2 p.m. at Riverdale Country School.
