RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan Men's Swimming team won seven of eleven total events as they went on to defeat Baruch College 103-87 for their second consecutive victory on Friday night.
The first five events of the night were all captured by Jaspers swimmers as they took a commanding lead almost halfway through the meet. Cullen Balcanoff, Dennis Daly, Scott Isaacs and Robert Varieur got the winning started with victory in the 200 yard medley relay which was followed by PJ Sweeney taking first in the 1000 meter freestyle with a time of 10:32.18.
Those wins would be duplicated by Ryan Klages who won the 200 yard freestyle, Varieur who dashed to a first place spot in the 50 meter freestyle, along with Daly's win in the 200 Individual Medley. The strangle hold on first place winners would loosen when James Chang was victorious in the 200 meter butterfly for Baruch.
Manhattan (8-3) would win two more events the rest of the way with Klages taking first in the 100 meter freestyle as well as Balcanoff winning the 100 yard backstroke in 57.72 seconds.
The Jaspers swimmers will be back in the pool tomorrow (Sat. Nov. 19) when they host St. Francis (NY) at 2 p.m. at Riverdale Country School.
