NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Deia Nassar beat Niagara goalkeeper Mike Moran for his first goal of the season as the Manhattan Men's soccer team (2-12-0; 2-3 MAAC) won their second straight contest 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. This marks the first time the Jaspers have won consecutive games since Oct. 6 and 7 in 2001 when they swept Canisius and Niagara on the road.
Nassar's goal came when fellow senior Trevor Chiduku found him in the box and was able to move around Moran to bury it in the back of the net. It is also the second straight match in which Chiduku has registered a point. He scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in Friday's 2-1 victory over Canisius.
Junior goalkeeper George Ellis recorded his first shutout in a Manhattan uniform making 10 saves as the Purple Eagles took a total of 27 shots on the day. The Jaspers offense was very aggressive registering 14 shots with freshman forward Eugene Heerschapp leading the way with five, three on goal.
Manhattan's Christopher Holihan along with Chiduku, were issued yellow cards while Bryan Da Cruz was booked for Niagara.
The Jaspers will look to continue their winning streak when they take host the Siena Saints on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. at Gaelic Park. They will then conclude their home schedule on Sunday morning Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. as they host Marist.
