RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Army used a goal from freshman midfielder Kim An in the 60th minute to upend the Manhattan women's soccer team 1-0 on Sunday at West Point. Lady Jaspers' goalkeeper Alyssa Bachowski made five saves in her season debut, while Black Knights' goalie Alex Lostetter came up with two stops to ensure the shutout.
Manhattan (1-2) battled with Army (4-1) through a scoreless first half courtesy of a solid defensive effort anchored by starting backs Kara Bucci, Devon Lutz, Claire Reinhard and Janie Schlauder. Backowski was zoned in right from the opening horn making two stops in the first seven minutes. Army outshot the Lady Jaspers 7-3 in the first half and 16-9 in the game.
