RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team yielded three first half goals as the Lady Jaspers fell 4-1 at Stony Brook (1-7-1) on Sunday afternoon. Seawolves' junior midfielder Dominique Adamo tallied what proved to be the game winning goal in the 21st minute. The Lady Jaspers received their lone goal by junior Megan Lavecchia in Manhattan's (1-5-1) third straight loss.
Stony Brook got off to a hot start scoring its initial goal just 3:31 into the contest. Sophomore midfielder Taryn Schoenbeck beat Lady Jaspers' senior goalkeeper Alyssa Bachowski for her first goal of the year. Bachowski had one save over 90 minutes of action in her second start this season.
Adamo extended the Stony Brook lead with her second goal this season in the 21st minute. The Seawolves' then used another goal from junior midfielder Holly Razzaghi less than four minutes before intermission to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
The Seawolves went up by four in the 50th minute when sophomore midfielder Sa'sha Kershaw finished a feed by Razzaghi. Razzaghi, a Bloomburg, Pa. native, finished with three points on the afternoon.
On a positive note, Manhattan ended its scoreless streak getting its first goal in the last five games when Lavecchia connected on her fifth career goal in the 60th minute. Lavecchia scored on Seawolves' starting goalie Chelsea Morales. Morales posted one save in 66 minutes of action. Senior backup Morgan Johanson finished out the final 24 minutes in net.
Manhattan outshot Stony Brook 4-3 in the second half, but was at an 11-6 disadvantage in the contest. The Seawolves also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Manhattan looks to rebound from its winless six game road series on Friday when the Lady Jaspers host Bryant at 7 p.m. It is Manhattan's first game back at Gaelic Park since earning a 2-1 season opening victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on August 27.
