Box Score

Riverdale, N.Y. -- In a game played in sloppy conditions, the Manhattan College women's lacrosse team mounted a late second half comeback against Canisius College Sunday, but fell three goals short, losing to the Griffs 17-14 at Gaelic Park.  Prior to the game, five Lady Jaspers - Caralyn Hickey, Helen Kerrisk, Keri Morrison, Korrin Nash and Liz Pfeiffer  -- were honored on Senior Day.

Kerrisk led Manhattan on the day with four points on three goals and an assist.  Phelicia VanOverbeke also had a hat-trick.  Hickey and Julia Lavelle had two goals each and Morrison, Tara Convery, Chrissy Gutenberger and Elizabeth Dugan netted a goal apiece.  Manhattan had a total of 30 shots to Canisius' 32.

On the defensive end, Morrison cajused three turnovers.  Kristen Brenner had a team high 5 ground balls and VanOverbeke picked up four ground balls.  Lady Jasper goalkeeper Julia DiBernardo recorded eight saves in the cage.

Canisius scored the first three goals of the match, but then Kerrisk and VanOverbeke scored 10 seconds apart at the 24 minute mark to cut the Canisius lead to 4-2.  Canisius then scored four consecutive goals before VanOverbeke scored her second to make the score 7-3.

Manhattan, which finished its season 3-13 and 1-5 MAAC, cut the Griffs' lead to three at 8-5 at 18:21 of the first half on a Gutenberger score, but the Canisius then held the Lady Jaspers scoreless for the final 18:21 of the first half while adding three goals to go into half with a 11-5 lead.

Canisius started the second half strong and eventually built an eight-goal lead, 17-9. Manhattan, however, netted the final five goals of the game, four of which came on free-position shots, for the 17-14 final.

Canisius, which won its fifth consecutive game and ran its record to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in the MAAC, was led in scoring by Carly Quinn's seven goals.
