RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Lady Jaspers suffered their third straight 1-0 defeat on Friday falling to conference rival Canisius (12-6-0, 6-2-0 MAAC). Junior midfielder Kelly Reinwald broke the scoreless tie in the 87th minute to lift the Golden Griffs over Manhattan (4-13-1, 2-6-0 MAAC) in Buffalo, N.Y.
Lady Jaspers' goalkeeper Kara Davis patrolled the pipes for all 90 minutes and recorded a game-high seven saves. Canisius senior goalkeeper Lesley Ivinac played the first 34 minutes and freshman Megan Tock played the final 56 minutes to secure the combined shutout. Ivinac had two saves, while Tock made five in the match.
Manhattan contained the highest scoring offense in the MAAC for the majority of the match, but Canisius finally broke through the Lady Jaspers' back line with just 3:39 remaining in regulation. Golden Griffs' senior forward Kasey Makowski connected with Reinwald who recorded her 10th goal of the season.
Lady Jaspers' junior midfielder Tara Gleason led Manhattan's offensive effort with eight of the team's game-high 19 shots. Gleason placed four of her shots on goal.
Manhattan completes the 2010 regular-season on Sunday when the Lady Jaspers visit Niagara. Kick off is slate for 12 p.m.
