The Manhattan College men's soccer team battled the Florida heat and Florida Atlantic Friday evening, coming away with a 1-1 tie against the Owls on the first day of the University of Central Florida Tournament in Orlando, Fla.
The Jaspers (now 1-4-1) got on the board first 18 minutes into the second half when a pair of seniors - Stephen Van Rossem and Nick White - combined. Van Rossem crossed the ball to the back post where White put the ball into the net from close range for his first goal of the season.
FAU (now 2-2-1) struck back about 15 minutes later when Kelly Jordan served a ball into the Manhattan box where Darnell King put it into the Jasper net.
FAU outshot Manhattan on the evening 22-8 and had an 11-3 advantage on corner kicks. Jasper goalkeeper Joseph Lorenz posted 10 saves in net.
"We didn't play as well as we could of, but walked away with a draw and a point," said Manhattan head coach Michael Swanwick. "It was certainly a hot night, but we are hoping for more when we return to the field for the second game of the tournament Sunday.
Manhattan next takes on host Central Florida Sunday at 1 p.m.
