PITTSBURGH, Penn. - For the second consecutive night, the Manhattan College men's soccer team found itself beaten by a goal in the last minutes of the contest, this time losing to the University of Richmond 2-1 Saturday at the Duquesne University tournament held in Pittsburgh.
Richmond freshman Houston Oldham scored with 2:07 remaining to give the Spider's the victory and the tournament championship.
Richmond sophomore Ty Williams had put Richmond on the board in the 15th minute of the first half when the Spider's Stephen Chareczko took a shot that was blocked, but Williams came up with the rebound and put it past the keeper.
Jasper sophomore Deia Nasser tied the match in the 29th minute of the first half, and that is how the score remained until the 88th minute when Richmond scored the late goal. About 10 minutes prior to the game-winning goal, Manhattan had several chances on goal but couldn't convert.
Manhattan had 6 corner kicks to none for Richmond, but Richmond outshot Manhattan 14-11, with Jasper junior goalkeeper Joseph Lorenz making 3 saves.
Manhattan sophomore Christopher Holihan and freshman Eric Jorgensen were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Jaspers (1-4) next play next week at another tournament, this time at the University of Central Florida tournament in Orlando, where they take on the Florida Atlantic University at 5 p.m. Friday and the host on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
