Women's Lacrosse Loses 17-7 to Canisius

BOX SCORE

The Manhattan College women's lacrosse team kept it close in the first half, but couldn't sustain the momentum as it lost to Canisius 17-7 in a match played in Buffalo.  Manhattan sophomore Julia Lavelle led the Lady Jaspers with a hat track, while freshman teammate Chrissy Gutenberger added two goals.

Manhattan's record is now 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the MAAC; Canisius improves its record to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the MAAC.

After Manhattan's Phelicia VanOverbeke opened the scoring three minutes into the game, the two teams exchanged leads several times in the first half, with Manhattan entering the halftime locker room down just a goal 7-6.  But then Canisius outscored the Lady Jaspers by an 10-1 margin during the second half to take the game.

Canisius outshot Manhattan 40-28 and were led in goals by Ashley Grey and Chelsea Martinez, who each tallied five. Allison Brown had 13 saves in the net for Manhattan.

The Lady Jaspers now have a nine day break before they travel to New Britain, Conn. to take on non-conference opponent Central Connecticut State.
