Registering its fifth consecutive game without a loss, the Manhattan College women's soccer team got goals from three different players to top Saint Peter's College 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Saint Peter's. Freshman goalkeeper Kara Davis (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) posted her fourth shutout of the season for the Lady Jaspers (now 7-7-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the MAAC).
"I thought this was our best complete game performance of the season," explained Manhattan Head Coach Sean Driscoll. "We moved the ball very well and each player did a great job from start to finish."
Despite outshooting Saint Peter's 8-0 in the first half, the Lady Jaspers couldn't find the back of the net until the 43rd minutes, when junior Michelle Mayaki (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) put home a goal of an assist by sophomore Devon Lutz (Waterford, N.Y./Shenhendehowa). It was Miyaki's first goal of the year and it was Lutz's first assist.
It didn't take as long into the second half for Manhattan to score again, with sophomore Megan Lavecchia (Pomona, N.Y./North Rockland) taking a pass from senior Amanda Fischer (Bridgeport, W.Va/Bridgeport) to put the Lady Jaspers up 2-0 at 54:17. It was her second tally of the season.
About 16 minutes later, senior Courtney McMahon (Bethel, Conn./Immaculate) clinched the contest, scoring her second goal of the year, unassisted.
For the game, Manhattan outshot the Peahens 12-1. In posting her shutout, Davis only had to make one save. Manhattan also had a big advantage in corner kicks by a 7-1 margin. Saint Peter's record moves to 4-13-1 overall and 1-6 in the MAAC.
The Lady Jaspers look to make it six games without a loss when they head to Rider next Friday for a 4 p.m. match in Lawrenceville, N.J.
