Riverdale, N.Y. -- A year and a week ago, the Manhattan men's soccer team fell behind early to Marist College and then staged a comeback that resulted in a 2-2 overtime tie with the Red Foxes. This year, the Jaspers couldn't repeat the feat, falling behind to Marist 1-0 in the first half, then unsuccessfully finding the tying goal though controlling possession for much of the second half.
Manhattan had several forays into Marist's goal area in the first 10 minutes of the first half, but shots by senior Stephen Van Rossem and sophomore Deia Nassar couldn't find the target.
At 30:06 of the first half, Marist's Stephan Brossard took a 35 yard pass from junior Nico Mossa and chipped the Manhattan keeper to give Marist a lead they would not relinquish. Marist is now 5-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the MAAC.
Manhattan outshot Marist on the evening 13-11, but Marist had 6 corner kicks to Manhattan's 3. Manhattan's Christopher Todd, making his first start in goal, came up with three saves, while Marist's keeper, Joe Pilla, had 2 saves.
Manhattan (1-11-1, 0-3-0 in the MAAC) looks to get back on the winning track when it takes on Siena College Sunday. Kickoff at Gaelic Park is at 10 a.m.
