Men's Soccer Foiled by Canisius Comeback 3-1

BOX SCORE

Manhattan College men's soccer lead went into the locker room at halftime up 1-0, but couldn't hold the lead and lost to Canisius 3-1 in a match played Sunday at Canisius College in Buffalo.  Jasper senior Stephen Van Rossem scored the goal for Manhattan.

Van Rossem, banging in a free kick, scored his third goal of the season in the 40th minute.  However, 10 minutes into the second half, Canisius scored the first of its three goals when Greg Anne scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Jason Marks.

Canisius senior Alan McGreal would give Canisius the lead shortly later, scoring his fifth goal of the season. The senior moved in and then scored from 17 yards out to give the Griffs the lead for good in the 62nd minute. McGreal would then seal the victory with a goal in the 90th minute.

Canisius outshot the Japers, 20-17, and had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Manhattan's junior keeper Joseph Lorenz recorded four saves in the defeat.

Manhattan's record is now 1-10-1, 0-2-0 in the MAAC, while Canisius is now 2-8-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Manhattan will look to get back on track in MAAC play when it returns home to Gaelic Park to take on Marist College Friday at 7 p.m.
