RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? The Manhattan College women's soccer team fell to Rhode Island (4-4-1), 6-0, this afternoon in Kingston, R.I. Six different Rams scored goals, including freshman forward Stephanie Santos who delivered the game winner in the eighth minute of action. With the loss, Manhattan (3-3) drops to .500 on the season.
Rhode Island got on the scoreboard early and frequent beginning with Santos's goal with 7:59 on the clock. Kassandra Spitler, a junior forward, set up the play when she served a pass into the box that Santos collected, and then placed in the lower right corner of the cage.
Rams forward Adrienne Ruhe Lischke posted the second goal of the contest in the 24th minute, marking her fourth of the season. Erese Fair assisted the score, along with the next two goals and finished the match with five points.
Agnes Arnadottir extended Rhode Island's advantage to 3-0 at the 25:10 mark, a lead the Rams carried into intermission. Arnadottir scored on a shot created from Fair's precise corner kick.
Senior Becca Fish and freshmen Courtney David and Fair each scored in the second half to cushion the Rams advantage.
Lady Jaspers' goalkeepers Caitlin Trupiano and Alyssa Bachowski split halves in net and combined for three saves. The tandem allowed three goals apiece.
Rhode Island outshot the Lady Jaspers 16-11 and 9-5 on goal.
Manhattan looks to snap its recent two game skid on Friday when the squad travels to Staten Island for a non-league match with Wagner. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
