BRONX, N.Y. ? After falling to Stony Brook in four hard-fought sets on Tuesday, the Manhattan College volleyball team had a chance to get even on Friday afternoon.  Unfortunately, the end result was the same, as the Lady Jaspers (0-4) dropped a 25-10, 25-11, 25-8 decision to the Seawolves (4-4) in the first match of the Rose Hill Classic at Fordham's Rose Hill Gym.

The Lady Jaspers started off well, opening up a 4-3 lead before Stony Brook blocks on three successive points swung the momentum completely the other way.  Stony Brook ran its lead to 8-4, then used an 11-2 run to build a 20-8 advantage.  The Seawolves tallied five blocks and four service aces en route to a 25-10 victory in the opening set.

Stony Brook rallied off the first four points of the second set and led 8-1 before freshman Bridget Call (Roberts, Wisc.) gave the Lady Jaspers a shot in the arm.  Call came in at setter and immediately ended Stony Brook's run by setting up a Jackie Kapovich (Downers Grove, Ill.) kill.  The Lady Jaspers won the next two points, as well, to get within 8-4, but the Seawolves responded with a 7-0 run to regain control.  Stony Brook won the set 25-11 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Manhattan held a 2-1 lead in the third set before Stony Brook continued its onslaught.  The Seawolves countered with a 16-1 run to open up a 17-3 advantage and rolled to a 25-8 win in the third set that clinched the match.  Stony Brook made just one hitting error in the third set, hitting .400 (9 kills, 20 attempts).  The Lady Jaspers, meanwhile, hit -.143 (5-8-21).

Sherryta Stokes (Beltsville, Md.) tallied match-highs with six kills and 12 digs to lead the Lady Jaspers.  Diane Strutner (San Jose, Calif.) registered seven digs and Call dished out seven assists.  Manhattan hit -.115 (17-26-78) for the match.

Gulce Nazli Dikecligil, who had five aces in the first meeting, tallied five more on Friday and added a team-high 10 digs for Stony Brook.  As a team, Stony Brook had 13 aces.  Ashley Headen repeated her eight-block performance from Tuesday night and was one of five Seawolves with a team-high five kills.  Kelsey Sullivan distributed 19 assists and added six digs.  The Seawolves outdug the Lady Jaspers 34-32 and outblocked Manhattan 10-2.  Stony Brook hit .304 for the match, slamming 27 kills and making just six errors in 69 swings.
