Riverdale, N.Y. (April 6, 2008) ? The Manhattan College women's lacrosse team traded goals early on with Marist, but could not hold the momentum and lost to the Red Foxes 20-7 in a game played at Marist.
Freshman Phelicia VanOverbeke led the Lady Jaspers with 3 goals, while freshman Julia Lavelle, senior Alicia Psillos, sophomore Helen Kerrisk and sophomore Caralyn Hickey chipped in with a goal each. Defensively, sophomore Keri Morrison stood out with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Senior Victoria Latino had four ground balls and two caused turnovers. In net, Manhattan sophomore goalkeeper Allison Brown faced 27 shots and had 7 saves.
Kaitlyn O'Sullivan led Marist with 4 goals, while Stephanie Garland and Ali Carlabucci each had three goals.
Manhattan is now 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC. Marist's record is now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the MAAC. Marist outshot Manhattan 35-29 in the contest.
Marist went out on top first, scoring at the 28:05 mark, but Manhattan tied the game at 23:50 on a free position goal from Van Overbeke. But 40 second later, Marist scored their second goal to go up 2-1. About a minute later, though, Lady Jasper Kerrisk scored on another free position shot to tie the game again at 2-2.
But about three minutes later, the Red Foxes went ahead for good, scoring the first of what would be become three unanswered goals. At 5-2, Van Overbeke scored to make it 5-3, but again Marist went on a 6-0 run to close out the first half up 10-4.
Then, in the second half, Marist opened with a 6-0 run, before Psillos ended the Manhattan goal drought with a goal at 9:18 to make is 16-5. Then Lavelle scored her goal to make it 16-6 at 6:47 before Marist scored four unanswered goals to take the score to 20-6. Hickey scored a final goal for the Lady Jaspers just three seconds prior to the final whistle to make it 20-7.
