Loudonville, N.Y. (April 26, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Softball team split with MAAC opponent Siena College today losing the first game 4-0 but bouncing back to win the second game 1-0. Melissa Donnelly pitched a complete game shutout giving up only four hits and striking out three while Lyndzie Phillips went 2-3 driving in a run for the Lady Jaspers.
In the first game, the Saints struck first as they scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady J's were having trouble getting their offense going as Siena put up one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Manhattan could not muster up a comeback as they went on to fall 4-0 in the first game.
The second game proved to be the Lady Jaspers rebound game as Danielle Just led off the fourth inning with a single. Just would reach second on a passed ball as two batters later, Phillips would hit a single to score Just. The Lady J's would take 1-0 lead and not let up as their defense held strong. Nicole Michel also went 2-3 in the second game, alongside Phillips' 2-3 performance. Kristina Walraven, Erika Sullivan and Danielle Just all tallied a hit in Manhattan's win.
Phillips would finish the day 3-6 with an RBI as Ashley Rampino put up a 2-3 performance in the first game for the Lady Jaspers. Donnelly pitched her third shutout of the year, and her second in two appearances. She has given up only one earned run in her last four appearances.
The Lady Jaspers will return home to action tomorrow, where they will take on Fairfield University in their last home game of the season. The game will be broadcast on Jaspervision and is set to start at 9:00 a.m.
