Riverdale, N.Y. (April 16, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Men's Lacrosse team beat opponent Wagner College in a home conference game today, 12-4. Angelo Marrano notched his second hat trick in two games, as he got offensive support from Marc LaBelle and Michael Llewellyn who scored two goals each.
Manhattan got out to a quick start putting up four goals in the first quarter. Marrano scored his first of the game 2:03 into the game to make it 1-0. Llewellyn tallied his first goal with 6:07 remaining which made it a 2-0 game. Freshman Will Coursen then put together two back-to-back goals, one coming with just 1.5 seconds left on the clock. The Jaspers were looking to add to their 4-0 lead going into the second quarter.
At the start of the second, Marrano and Llewellyn both scored their second goal of the game as they scored within two minutes of each other to make it a 6-0 in favor of Manhattan. After Wagner got on the board, Sal Spatarella fired one past the goalie to give the Jaspers a 7-1 lead. LaBelle then scored his two goals on the game, also back-to-back putting Manhattan way out in front, 9-1 at the half.
Wagner would start out the third quarter with a goal, trying to get momentum to go their way. But the Jaspers answered right back as Marrano capped off his hat trick to keep them out in front, 10-2. Wagner would put up another goal once more before the end of the quarter, but Sean Firth answered them right back and going into the final quarter of play Manhattan lead 11-3.
After another Wagner goal made it 11-4, Sal Perotto capped off Manhattan's victory with a goal of his own and the Jaspers strolled on to victory.
Marrano notched his sixth point in two games today, as he scored three times in Manhattan's previous game. Brian Wynne kept his consecutive point streak going, as he dished out three assists on the game. LaBelle, Llewellyn and Coursen all finished the game with two goals apiece as Justin Jensen tallied two assits.
Goalie John Geagan held the Jasper defense strong with eight saves off of 18 shots. Seniors Corey Dolik and Shawn Gorinson combined to grab 10 groundballs for Manhattan in the game.
The Jaspers improve their conference record to 3-2 and will travel to take on Siena College in their next game on Saturday, April 19. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
