Men's Lacrosse Tops Mt. St. Mary?s, 8-4

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 12, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Men's Lacrosse team beat conference opponent Mt. St. Mary's College today, 8-4.  Angelo Marrano tallied a hat trick in today's game as he got support from Michael Llewellyn and Salvatore Spatarella as they scored two goals each.

 

In the first quarter, both defenses were playing strong as most of the quarter went scoreless to start off the game.  But with 2:28 left till the end of the quarter, Marrano gave the Jaspers a 1-0 lead.  Mt. St. Mary's would tied the score up a minute later and the quarter would end in a 1-1 tie.

 

Manhattan really showed their strength in the second quarter as they Marrano scored his second goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead.  The Mount would tie it up once again, but with just 12 seconds left til the half, Spatarella fired one past the goalie and the Jaspers would go into the locker room with a 3-2 lead.

 

Spatarella kept the heat on as he came out in the third quarter and scored his second of the game with 10:57 left.  Mount would score once again to cut Manhattan's lead to one, but Joseph Treman and Llewellyn both scored before the end of the third quarter and going into the final quarter of play, the Jaspers held a 6-3 lead.

 

After Mount brought it to within two, 6-4, Marrano capped off his hat trick with a goal with 8:51 remaining.  With the Jaspers leading 7-4, Llewellyn's second goal sealed the victory as Manhattan would cruise on to the victory.

 

Llewellyn and Spatarella both finished with two points on the day, as Marrano finished with three.  Treman tallied one point off of his one goal as Marc LaBelle captured a point with an assists.  LaBelle kept his point streak going as he dished out two assists on the day.  

 

With the win, Manhattan improves its MAAC record to 2-2.  The Jaspers will return to action on Wednesday, April 16 where they will come home to play Wagner College.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
