Women's Volleyball Manhattan Athletic Department

VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO COLUMBIA, 3-1

Riverdale, N.Y. ? Manhattan dropped a four game match to Columbia University, 3-1.  Senior Ashley Watson had a game high 24 digs to anchor the Lady J's defense.

The Lady Jaspers came out strong in the first game, keeping the game even for most of the way.  But Manhattan pulled away in the end to take the first game, 30-26.  The second game proved to be much like the first as both teams kept it even.  They found themselves tied at 27 towards the end of the game, but the Lions edged it out, and won the game 30-28.  In the third game, the Lady J's found themselves in an early hole down 9-2.  They fought back and managed to cut the deficit to 5 as they were trailing Columbia, 10-5.  Manhattan could not even the deficit as the lions took the third game, 30-17.  With the Lady Jaspers facing a loss, they came out in the fourth game and led most of the way.  The Lions battled back and tied the game up, 18-18.  Columbia came out on top in the end to win the game (30-25) and the match (3-1).

Senior Ashley Watson led all players with 24 digs to anchor the Manhattan defense.  Juniors Andrea Reiff and Jackie Kapovich both had a team high 10 kills in the match.  The Lady J's will look to improve their record on Saturday, September 29 where they will travel to Buffalo to take on Canisius College at 2:00 PM
