Philadelphia, Pa, (September 14, 2007)- Alicia DeFino recorded a season-high 12 shots as Manhattan defeated LaSalle, 2-1, tonight in non-conference action.
La Salle had the bulk of the early chances, as DeFino made the game's first five saves, and the Explorers also put one shot off the post. However, at the 34:49 mark, Caroline Morse tallied her first goal of the season, settling a loose ball and firing a shot from 35-yards out into the net, to give the Lady Jaspers a 1-0 lead, a lead they carried into the half.
In the second half La Salle again tallied most of the early chances, but DeFino was up to the task each time. Manhattan extended its lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute when Christine Reina scored an important insurance goal, with assists being credited to Courtney McMahon and Tracey Colantonio.
La Salle scored with under three minutes left to cut the deficit in half, but could not score the equalizer.
The Explorers held a 23-5 advantage in shots, but DeFino was up to the task to earn her first win of the season.
Manhattan concludes its weekend in the city of Brotherly Love on Sunday, September 16, taking on Drexel University at 1:00 p.m.
