Riverdale, N.Y. (September 1) ? Manhattan College Volleyball dropped both of its matches today in contests with the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore and Seton Hall University. Diane Strutner took home an All-Tournament Team award for Manhattan College in the final day of the Jasper Invitational.
In the first match the Lady J's fell behind 2-0 to Md.-Eastern Shore. They tried to spark a comeback as they took the third game from the Hawks, 35-33. Manhattan's offense, led by Diane Strutners' 23 kills and Alyssa Getzels' 38 assists, came up a little short as they dropped the fourth game and lost the match.
In their second consecutive match of the day, the Lady Jaspers came out aggressively as they took the first two games from Seton Hall 31-29 and 32-30. The Pirates put up a fight as they came back to take the next two games and make it all even at two games a piece. It came down to a fifth and final game where both teams were doing everything they could to get the win. . It was a close one, but Seton Hall edged Manhattan 15-13 in the fifth game and took the match. The Lady J's defense was anchored by Senior Ashley Watson as she accumulated 26 digs in the match. Alyssa Getzel contributed 55 assists and Diane Strutner supplied 28 kills.
Diane Strutner racked up 51 kills and 28 digs in both her matches. Strutner was joined by Same Chukwura from Md.-Eastern Shore, Amila Brokovic from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and Amy Matters from Seton Hall on the All-Tournament Team for the Jasper Invitational. Seton Hall University walked away champions of the 4th annual Jasper Invitational and their star player Brittany Rahrer took home the Most Valuable Player award. The Lady Jaspers look to improve on their record this upcoming Wednesday, September 5, as they take on Farleigh Dickinson University at 7:00 PM at the Draddy.
