Staten Island, N.Y. (May 3, 2007)?Wagner swept a doubleheader from visiting Manhattan at Lower Athletic Field, giving the Seahawks wins in 18 of their last 19 games. Wagner took game one 4-3, then won game two in nine innings 5-4.
Manhattan jumped out a 2-0 lead in game two behind RBI from Candice Sheridan and Devon Gustafson. With Kerry Cook on third and Danielle Just on second, a sac fly by Sheridan to centerfield scored Cook, with Just advancing third on the play. The next batter Gustafson singled up the middle to score Just, but Gozdziewski was thrown out at home.
In the fifth, Wagner converted two Manhattan errors into two runs. With Katie Stevens and Jaclyn Vanore on base, Victoria Batistelli reached on an error, allowing Stevens and Vanore to score.
The game remained tied into the eighth inning, where Manhattan went ahead on an RBI single by Just that scored Liz Strein. Manhattan however could not close out the Seahawks, as Ami Iwicki singled in Batistelli to tie the score again.
In the ninth inning, Manhattan went ahead 4-3 on an RBI double by Lyndzie Phillips that scored Gustafson. In the bottom of the inning, Wagner tied the score at 4-4, then won the game on a single by Joy Gallagher.
In game one, Manhattan fell behind 3-0, but clawed to within 3-2, scoring two runs in the third inning when Strein scored after an error, and Sheridan singled in Cook from third.
Wagner would add a run in the fourth, and Manhattan a run in the fifth to provide the final margin.
Manhattan concludes its regular season this Saturday when they travel up to Fairfield, Conn. for a doubleheader against the Stags. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
