RUIZ'S DOUBLE GIVES BASEBALL 3-2 (10 INNING) WIN AT SAINT PETER'S

Jersey City, N.J. (May 18, 2007)- Rene Ruiz drove home Kevin Nieto with a double in the tenth inning to lift Manhattan to a 3-2, extra inning, win over Saint Peter's this afternoon.  The Jaspers improve to 31-16 overall, and 20-4 in MAAC play, the first time in program history Manhattan has reached 20 wins in conference play.

After six scoreless frames, Manhattan was the first to crack the scoreboard.  Ruiz led off the top of the seventh with a walk, advanced to third on a single by Nick Derba, and came home on an RBI single by Dom Lombardi.

Three consecutive doubles scored two for the Peacocks in the bottom of the frame to grab a 2-1 lead, but Matt Rizzotti doubled home Kevin Nieto to knot the score at 2-2.

The score remained tied into the top of the tenth, before Ruiz drove home the winning run.

Brian Pendergast set down the side in order in the bottom of the tenth to pick up his eighth win of the season against no losses.

The two teams will conclude the regular season with a twin bill tomorrow, Saturday, May 19, with the first pitch slated for 12 noon.
