Niagara University, N.Y. (April 14, 2007)?Both Niagara and Manhattan swung hot bats today, as the teams combined to score 35 runs in both games of a doubleheader. Niagara broke a 6-6 tie in game one with eight unanswered runs to win 14-6, while the Purple Eagles took game two 9-6.
With game one tied 6-6 in the bottom of the fourth, the Purple Eagles scored four runs in that inning, and four more in the fifth to end the game.
In game two, Manhattan led 3-2 on the strength of a Danille Just two-run homerun. Niagara however rallied for two runs in the third inning, and four runs in the fourth inning to make the score 8-3. The Lady Jaspers scored twice in the fifth inning to make the score 8-5, but could not get within more than three runs.
For Manhattan, Michelle Gutierrez had an impressive day at the plate, knocking in a combined five runs, while Just knocked in three on the day.
Manhattan returns to action tomorrow at Canisius for a doubleheader.
