WOMEN'S LACROSSE BEATS SIENA, 8-6

Eastchester, N.Y. (April 13, 2007)- Manhattan raced out to a 6-0 lead and held off a Siena comeback to post an 8-6 MAAC win this afternoon at Eastchester Field.  With the win, the Lady Jaspers even their conference record at 2-2 and keep their MAAC Tournament hopes alive.

It seemed as if Manhattan would run away with things in the early going, scoring the game's first six goals to lead, 6-0, with 20:20 to play in the first 30 minutes.  Keri Morrison got things going, scoring off a pass from Alicia Psillos just 48 seconds into the game.  Jenny Carman earned the next two tallies, the first unassisted, and the second off another assist from Psillos.  The teammates switched spots on the fourth goal, with Psillos scoring off a pass from Carman.  Brenna Tinari scored an unassisted goal for the fifth tally, before Caralyn Hickey completed the quick start with a goal off a pass from Lauren Civardi.

Siena scored three of the next four goals, with the lone Manhattan tally coming from Tinari, and trailed, 7-3, at the half.

Siena continued to climb back into the game, scoring the first three goals of the second half to pull within a single tally, 7-6, with 12:07 left in the game.  Tinari scored an insurance goal with 5:34 to play, with the assist coming from Carman, and played solid defense the rest of the way to emerge with the hard fought win.

Ashley Devins tallied 12 saves (eight in the second half), while allowing just six goals.  This marked the fourth straight meeting between the Lady Jaspers and Saints that Devins and the Manhattan defense has held Siena to less than 10 goals (all Manhattan wins).

The Lady Jaspers get back in action and play their final regular season home game on Sunday, April 15, hosting Le Moyne College at Eastchester HS.  The game, set to start at 10:00 a.m., will be preceded by a Senior Day ceremony honoring the six Manhattan seniors.
