BASEBALL FALLS TO FORDHAM, 5-1

West Palm Beach, Fla. (March 18, 2007)- Fordham University posted a 5-1 win over Manhattan College in the Palm Beach Challenge at the Santaluces Sports Complex in the Jaspers' final game of their Spring Break trip.

Fordham took advantage of four Manhattan errors to score four unearned runs while the Fordham pitcher kept the Jaspers bat's in check, allowing only two batters to reach second over the first eight innings.

The Rams struck first, picking up a run in the first as Eric Reese opened the inning with a single and Rich Goulian walked. After a Lert fielder's choice, John Mollicone brought Goulian in with a single.

Fordham made it a 3-0 game with a pair of unearned runs in the second as with one out, Chris Kaible reached on an error, Danny Leach walked and Reese was hit by a pitch to load the bases. One out later, Lert singled to plate Kaible and Leach and make it a 3-0 game.

The Rams added an unearned run in the fourth and another in the fifth when Mollicone opened the inning reaching on an error and Michael Taddei moved him to third with a sacrifice, where he scored on a Brian Keeney sacrifice fly.

The Jaspers spoiled the Rams' shot at shut out when Nick Derba hit a solo home run with one out in the ninth.
