Riverdale, N.Y. (October 3) ? Manhattan fell to Sacred Heart University in a non-conference game, 3-0. Senior Ashley Watson had a game high 18 digs to anchor the Lady Jasper's defense.
The Lady J's traveled to Connecticut to take on Sacred Heart in a non-conference match. Manhattan jumped out to an early 5-1 lead but Sacred Heart battled back and the game was tied at 14. The Lady J's tried to come back but, Sacred Heart jumped out to a lead and held on to win the first game, 30-22. In the second game, Manhattan found itself in a hole, 13-7, early in the game. The Lady Jaspers fought back and decreased the deficit to only trail by three, 17-14. The Pioneers would not let their lead diminish any further as they took the second game, 30-24 and led the match, 2-0. In the third game, Manhattan was once again battling from behind. Down 25-14, the Lady J's scored the next four points in a row. But Sacred Heart proved to be too strong as they took the third and final game 30-21 and the match, 3-0.
Senior Ashley Watson had a game high 28 digs for the Lady J's. Freshman Cayla Roberts paced the Manhattan offense with 21 assists. Junior Sherryta Stokes led all Lady Jasper's with eight kills while also contributing five digs.
Manhattan will continue their MAAC schedule as they will travel Saturday, October 6 to take on Loyola College at 2:00 PM.
