Riverdale, N.Y. ? Manhattan fell to first place Siena College today, 3-0. Junior Sherryta Stokes fueled the Manhattan offense with 10 kills as well as anchoring the defense with a game high 12 digs.
The Lady Jaspers traveled to Loudonville, N.Y. to take on MAAC opponent Siena. In the first game, the Lady J's found themselves trailing early, down 8-2. Manhattan fought back and put together a five consecutive point run and tied the game at 13. The game was kept close soon after but the Saints came ahead, 20-14. The lead proved to be too much for the Lady J's as they dropped the first game, 30-21. Down one game in the match, the Lady Jaspers came out to take an 8-4 lead in the beginning of the second game. It was a tight contest from then on as they biggest lead any team would take would be four points. With the game tied at 19, Junior Jackie Kapovich came through with two huge kills to keep Manhattan within reach. But Siena scored five of the last six points in the game, and ended up winning 30-26 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
Facing another conference loss, Manhattan was confronted by a five point deficit, 14-9. The Lady J's fought back, scoring the next five consecutive points to tie the game up at 14. From that point on, Siena proved to be too strong as they took the third and final game, 30-22 and won the match 3-0.
Junior Sherryta Stokes had an outstanding performance, tied for a team high 10 kills and tied for a game high 12 digs. Junior Jackie Kapovich was the other member of the Lady Jaspers to contribute 10 digs to the Manhattan offense.
Manhattan will continue their conference schedule on Saturday, November 2 as they will take on Loyola College at Draddy at 2:00 p.m.
