Riverdale, N.Y. ? Manhattan dropped a three game match to first place MAAC opponent Siena College. Junior Andrea Reiff had a team high 11 kills and hit .381 on the day.
In their second MAAC home game this weekend, Manhattan took on conference best Siena in a regular season match-up. The first game was kept close as there were 12 ties in the game. Manhattan was trailing by two points, down 18-16. But the Lady Jaspers fought back and score three consecutive points to take a one point lead, 19-18. But the Saints pulled away in the end to win the first game 30-23 and lead the match, 1-0. In the second game, both teams left it all out on the floor as they were battling for every point. Towards the end of the game, the Lady J's found themselves down 24-20. Manhattan then scored four consecutive points to tie the game up at 24. Shortly after, Siena regained the lead and was up 28-25. But the Lady Jaspers were not going to go quietly as they came back to tie the game up at 28. In the end, the Saints edged out a game two victory, 30-28 and now lead the match 2-0. Going into the third game, the Lady Jaspers knew they were going to have to play hard in order to beat Siena. In the end, Siena proved to be too strong as they took the third game 30-24 and won the match, 3-0.
The Lady J's offense was powered by Junior Andrea Reiff's team high 11 kills and .381 hitting percentage. She also contributed 6 digs and a service ace in the match. Junior Jackie Kapovich had 10 kills in the match to pace the Manhattan offense.
The Lady Jaspers will continue their MAAC regular season schedule on Saturday, October 20 when they take on Rider University in the Draddy at 2:00 p.m.
