Jersey City, N.J. (January 29, 2007)?Saint Peter's shot 53.7 percent from the field and had four players score in double figures as the Peahens downed Manhattan 75-53 Monday evening at the Yanitelli Center. Tania Kennedy led all scorers with 20 points and Lauma Reke chipped in 19 as the Peahens improve to 5-5 in the MAAC and 9-10 overall. Manhattan drops to 3-7 in MAAC play and 6-15 overall.
In a game that was televised on the MSG Network, the Peahens jumped on Manhattan early and never let the Lady Jaspers threaten their lead. Kennedy drilled two from long distance to give Saint Peter's a 6-2 lead, but a bucket by Gabrielle Cottrell and a three ball from Annie McIntyre put the Lady J's up 7-6, their only lead of the game. Another three-pointer on the home side's next possession, this time from Reke, put Saint Peter's in front for good.
The Peahens then put on a shooting display for the home crowd, making eight of their next 11 shots and going on a 20-3 run to lead 29-10, giving Saint Peter's some distance from Manhattan.
The Lady J's played Saint Peter's even in the second half, as both teams scored 32 points, but the Peahens' lead was too large to overcome.
Caitlin Flood and Kelly Regan scored in double figures for Manhattan with 12 points a piece. While freshman Vanessa Davison scored seven points to go along with seven rebounds.
Manhattan will return to action this Friday when they travel up to Connecticut to battle Fairfield. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
