Loudonville, N.Y. (September 24, 2006)-Manhattan Volleyball was unable to knock off the defending MAAC Champion Siena College Saints on Sunday afternoon in the Alumni Recreation Center.
The Saints, behind a double-double from outside hitter Nadiege Honore, beat the Lady Jaspers in three games (30-26, 30-22, 30-25). Honore, the 2006 MAAC Pre-season Player of the Year, recorded team highs in kills and digs with 14 and 13 respectively.
Freshman outside Kandice Watson was Manhattan's most productive player on the score sheet. The rookie hit .258 with 12 kills, while also adding eight digs. Sophomore outside hitters
Andrea Reiff and
Sherryta Stokes added seven kills apiece, but the Lady Jaspers lacked offensive efficiency throughout the afternoon.
The Manhattan defense held Siena to hitting percentages of .132 and .162 in games one and tow of the match, but the Lady Jasper attack could not capitalize, hitting only .171 and .062 during those same frames.
The Lady Jaspers are not the only ones who have failed to solve the red hot Saints. Siena has now won six in a row and boasts and 8-7 record overall and 4-0 in the MAAC. After picking up its first conference win last weekend, Manhattan has dropped its last two conference dates to fall to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Manhattan has five days to regroup before returning to the hardwood in Draddy Gym against the Marist College Red Foxes in a conference match on Saturday, September 30.
