Bronx, N.Y. (September 22, 2006)-In a match up between cross-town rivals, Fordham University defeated the Lady Jaspers 3-0 on Friday night at Jack Coffey Field.
Manhattan's prolific offense which has produced 22 goals this season, was shutdown by Fordham as the Rams handed the Lady Jaspers their second loss of the season.
Fordham wasted little time jumping out in front, taking a 1-0 lead at the 12:38 mark on Katie Sanchez's fifth goal of the season. Courtney Fedge played a long ball into the box, which Sanchez corralled and shot from 10 yards to beat goalkeeper
Alicia DeFino.
Less than two minutes later Fordham scored their second goal on Erica Frizzell's first goal of the season, a shot from 20 yards out after she gained possession of a loose ball.
In the 55th minute, Leah Jerome gave Fordham a 3-0 lead, taking a head pass from Frizzell and scoring from five yards out.
Freshman keeper
Caitlin Trupiano played the entire second half and made three saves, her first game action since September 4th against the University at Albany.
Despite the loss, Manhattan's non-conference schedule was a resounding success. The Lady Jaspers won a school record six straight games, and seven out of eight. Manhattan went five plus games without conceding a goal, and have outscored opponents 22-7 in nine games so far this season. The Lady Jaspers will play one more non-conference game, against Delaware State, a team Manhattan beat 4-0 last year, on October 11.
The Lady Jaspers next game is also their first MAAC game, on Friday, September 29 against Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y.
