GAME 2 BOXSCOREBronx, N.Y. (April 28, 2006)- Manhattan (21-21) played a non-conference double header today against Fordham University (31-19) and came out with a split. In the first game, Fordham's offense was on fire with 15 hits and 11 runs. Senior pitcher
Jill Medea, who is now 14-10 on the year, got the loss for Manhattan. In the nightcap, the Lady Jaspers came back with a bang on offense and scored 10 runs on 13 hits, defeating the Rams, 10-7.
In the first contest, Manhattan's only three hits came off the bats of senior
Kiera Fox, freshman
Danielle Just and
Amanda Genovese. Fordham had a stellar offensive outing, putting Manhattan away in six full innings making the final score 11-3.
In the nightcap, momentum started swinging in Manhattan's favor when the offense came alive in the top of the second, when Fox belted her 10th home run of the year. Then in the third inning, Just stepped up with an RBI single. Just went 2 for 4 with four RBI's leading the Lady Jasper's offense. Fox went 3 for 5 with three RBI's. Juniors
Deirdre Langan and
Stefanie Gozdziewski each had an RBI extending the lead and keeping the offense fired up. Junior pitcher
Kristin Gelsleichter (5-5) started the game and had a great performance on the mound for the Lady Jaspers. Junior
Liz Pennino relieved Gelsleichter in the bottom of the seventh and closed the door on the Fordham rally.
Manhattan gets back into action on Sunday in a MAAC conference double header at St. Peter's College 1 p.m.
