Bridgeport, Conn. (April 18, 2006)- Sacred Heart scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to open up the game, on the way to a 14-9 win over Manhattan this afternoon at Bluefish Stadium. The Jaspers fall to 15-15 overall.
The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, scoring three runs on three hits.
Manhattan scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, the first on a
Nick Derba RBI sacrifice fly, and the second on a on a fielding error, to cut the lead to 3-2.
Sacred Heart would answer with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, using six hits and two Manhattan errors to open up a 9-2 lead.
The Jaspers would begin to chip away at the lead in the fifth.
Ryan Masters would come home on a passed ball before
John Fitzpatrick singled home Derba to make the score 9-4 Sacred Heart.
In the sixth, four straight hits to start the inning brought home two runs, with Masters and
Rene Ruiz picking up RBI, before
Matt Rizzotti's RBI groundout scored Masters to being Manhattan within two, 9-7.
Sacred Heart re-established its big lead with five runs in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of two more Jasper errors.
A Rizzotti RBI single in the eighth, and an
Angel Aponte RBI groundout in the ninth would account for the final two runs.
