Emmitsburg, Md. (March 25, 2006)--Manhattan Men's Lacrosse was unable to rebound from a tough first half, which saw Mt. St. Mary's outshoot the Jaspers 21-11 and score six times en route to a 10-3 MAAC victory on Saturday afternoon. Mt. St. Mary's goalie Joe Zolezzi would not let the Jaspers back into the game as he turned away 11 of Manhattan's 12 shots on goal in the second half.
After three Mount goals in the first quarter, Manhattan's Mark Labelle converted a man-up opportunity by taking a pass from
Christian Schaefers and putting it past Zolezzi to opening the scoring in the second period with the clock reading 12:52. Manhattan could not produce a rally, however, as Mount St. Mary's answered right back less than three minutes later, when Matt Warner notched his second goal of the contest, making the score 4-1.
Mount would add two more in the period, with the second completing the hat trick for Warner. With his squad trailing 6-1, Manhattan's
Brian Murray set up
Jeremy Marrano for his second goal of the season, giving Manhattan some momentum heading into the lockerroom.
Mt. St. Mary's scored the first three goals of the second half, however, before Murray scored a goal of his own, putting his season total at a team-leading 11.
Justin Henry, who recorded nine saves on the day, took the loss for the Jaspers in a game that saw each team take seven penalties. Mount St. Mary's converted on two of their seven man-up opportunities, while the Jaspers' lone man-up score was Labelle's early on in the contest.
Manhattan resumes MAAC play on Saturday, April 1, when the Jaspers make their home debut at Gaelic Park against Saint Joseph's. Face-off is at 2:00 p.m.
