GAME 2 BOXSCORERiverdale, N.Y. (March 21, 2006)- The Lady Jaspers open their 2006 home opener with a bang defeating Stonybrook 6-1. Manhattan then dropped the second game of the doubleheader to the Seawolves 8-0 in five innings.
In the first game, junior
Deirdre Langan sparked the offense going 3 for 3. Langan started the Lady Jasper's in the second with a single up the middle scoring freshmen
Danielle Just. Freshmen
Devon Gustafson added another RBI.
Senior
Tina Buyea led off the fourth inning with a double. Langan brought Buyea around on her second RBI single. Junior
Liz Strein added to the Jasper's lead plating pinch runner Sarah Connors. Langan put the game out of reach with a two run homerun in the sixth, her first of the season.
Senior
Jill Medea dominated the circle completing the game for her 7th win on the year. Medea allowed only one run on four hits.
In the second half of the doubleheader Manhattan was shutout 8-0. Freshmen
Danielle Just picked up two hits including a double in the bottom of the fourth. Lyndzie Phillips also collected a hit in the fourth, but the Jasper's could not capitalize.
Kristin Gelsleichter started the game and was relieved by
Liz Pennino in the 3rd. Pennino pitched three innings letting up one run for the Lady Jasper's.
Manhattan faces off against St. Joseph's this Thursday in Philadelphia.
