O'MALLEY TALLIES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL, BUT MEN'S LACROSSE COULD NOT STOP THE RUTGERS' ATTACK

Piscataway, N.J. (March 14, 2006)--Sophomore Jack O'Malley started the game in ideal fashion for Manhattan Men's Lacrosse as he took a pass from Greg Lewis and buried it into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal and a 1-0 Jasper lead just five minutes into the contest against Rutgers. It was not the start, but the ending that was unfavorable to the Jaspers. Rutgers eventually strung together 13 unanswered goals to defeat Manhattan 15-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Piscataway, N.J.

After the O'Malley tally, Rutgers netted two consecutive unassisted goals to jump in front 2-1 late in the first quarter. Lewis, however, answered right back for Manhattan as he notched his seventh goal of the young season to even the score with 1:13 remaining in the opening stanza. Then, Rutgers began its impressive run.

With only two seconds left in the first quarter, Rutgers' Devon Britts put one past Manhattan goalkeeper Justin Henry for a 3-2 lead and the first of 13 consecutive Rutgers' tallies. In all Rutgers fired 47 shots, 24 on goal. The Scarlet Knights also grabbed 16 more groundballs than the Jaspers.

With the defeat, Manhattan falls to 2-3 overall. The Jaspers have not yet played a MAAC game, but that status will change on March 18 as they take on Marist in Sebastian, Fla.
