Miami, Fla. (March 12, 2006)- Manhattan and Harvard battled through six scoreless innings before the Crimson were able to score the game's lone run in the top of the seventh, hanging on for the win in the consolation game of the Florida International Tournament this morning at University Park.
Liz Strein went 1-1 on the day with two walks and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
In a pitcher's duel, Manhattan was able to get a runner to second on three occassions, in the first, third, and fifth, with Strein being that runner on two of the three occasions, but could not push a run across.
Harvard put a runner in scoring position in the first, fourth, and sixth, with the best of the three opportunities coming in the sixth, when the Crimson has runners on second and third with one out, but could not solve the Lady Jaspers'
Jill Medea.
Harvard took advantage of an error and a passed ball to score a run in the top of the seventh, with the run scoring on an RBI single.
Medea went the distance for Manhattan, scattering five hits, allowing an unearned run, while posting seven strikeouts.
Strein was named All-Tournament after going 8-12 (.667 BA) for the tournament, with five walks, four runs scored, and three RBI.
Manhattan gets back in action on Wednesday, March 15, traveling to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Drexel in a double header slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
