Brooklyn, N.Y. (December 21, 2006)- Jamal Womack hit a three pointer with 1.6 seconds left in overtime to lift St. Francis-N.Y. to a 76-73 win over Manhattan College tonight at Peter Aquilone Court on the Terriers' campus. Arturo Dubois paced the Jaspers with 20 points and nine rebounds.
In the overtime period, St. Francis led by three, 73-70, with 10 seconds left before Jamel Ferguson drilled a long three to knot the score at 73 all. The Terriers immediately inbounded the ball and pushed the ball up court, and Womack converted his sixth three-pointer of the night to provide the final margin.
The game see-sawed in the early going, until St. Francis used a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead with 12:49 left in the opening stanza. The Terriers would push the lead to seven, 23-16, the largest lead by either side, following a David Burton trifecta 6:32 before the break. Manhattan would produce a 10-4 run the rest of the half to pull within one, 27-26, at the half.
The Jaspers would extend the run to 18-6 in the early going of the second stanza, building a five point lead, 34-29, with 16:11 left in the game. Manhattan could not increase its advantage, but held on to the lead for the next 15 minutes until two Marcus Williams free throws tied the score at 59 with 1:23 left in regulation. On the ensuing possession, Darryl Crawford penetrated and put up a shot that rimmed out, but Devon Austin was there to tip home the rebound, giving the Jaspers a 61-59 lead with 55 ticks left on the clock. With 22 seconds left in regulation, Williams converted a layup to knot the score at 61 and send the game into the extra session.
Joining Dubois in double figures were Crawford (14 points), Austin (11 points), and Guy Ngarndi (10 points).
Womack led all scorers with 21 points, pacing five Terriers in double-figures.
Manhattan will get back to action on December 30, traveling to Long Beach, Calif. to take on Long Beach State at 10:00 ET. Following that game, the Jaspers continue up the Pacific Coast Highway, traveling to Malibu, Calif. to battle Pepperdine on January 2 at 8:00 ET.
