Riverdale, N.Y. (November 25, 2006)- Behind a career-high 28 points, including a school record tying seven three pointers, from Corey Lowe, Boston University posted a 74-65 win over Manhattan College tonight at Draddy Gym. The Jaspers fall to 2-3 on the season, while the Terriers improve to 2-3.
In the first half, the two teams played evenly for the first eight minutes, until, with Manhattan holding a one point, 15-14, lead with 12:01 remaining, the Jaspers used a 8-0 run over the next 2:10 to open up a nine point lead, 23-14, their largest lead of the night, with 8:50 left before the break. The Terriers responded with a 17-7 run over the next six-plus minutes to take a one point lead, 31-30, 2:18 before halftime. After trading baskets, Boston University closed out the half by scoring four of the final five points to go into the locker room with a four point, 37-33, lead.
Boston University scored the first two baskets of the second half to open up a quick, eight point lead, but Manhattan battled back over the next five minutes, scoring 13 of the next 18 points, the final four on a dunk by Devon Austin and a Guy Ngarndi layup to knot the score at 46 with 13:46 remaining on the clock. The Terriers held strong, and worked the lead back up to seven, 54-47, with an 8-1 run over the next 1:30, and did not let the lead dip below three points the rest of the way.
All five Manhattan starters tallied double-figures in the scoring column, paced by Darryl Crawford's career-high 17. Austin added 13, while Arturo Dubois and Christian Jackson each chipped in with 12. Ngarndi tallied 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Manhattan, which just concluded a five game, season-opening home stand, begins a stretch that sees the Jaspers play six of their next seven on the road, beginning with the annual Battle of the Bronx game with boro-rival Fordham University on Thursday, November 30. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
