New York, N.Y. (October 31, 2006)-The Columbia attack nearly doubled Manhattan Volleyball's hitting percentage en route to a three-game non-conference victory (31-29, 30-17, 30-27) over the Lady Jaspers on Tuesday night at Levien Gymnasium. Manhattan sophomore
Sherryta Stokes matched Columbia's Amalia Viti with a match high 16 kills, but Manhattan lacked efficiency in its attack and service game.
Despite hitting only .105 for the match, the Lady Jaspers still gave themselves a chance to win both games one and three. Manhattan lost both of those frames by a combined five points. In game two, the only contest in which Columbia managed to pull away from Manhattan, the Lady Jaspers notched 10 kills and committed 10 errors.
Manhattan gave away 12 points in the service game on errors, while only managing four aces. Columbia, however, registered 11 aces to only six miscues.
Junior
Ashley Watson, who was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week the past two weeks, continued to creep closer to Manhattan's single season record for digs. With 19 digs on Tuesday night, Watson now has 422 for the season, exactly 50 short of the record.
The Lady Jaspers return to the court at Fairfield University where they will take on the MAAC-leading Stags on Saturday, November 4.
