Teaneck, N.J. (October 4, 2006)-The arms of
Whitney Judkins and Kandice Watson have been about as hot as the New York weather of late. As temperatures hovered around 80 degrees on an October day, Judkins and Watson produced impressive numbers for the third straight match propelling Manhattan Volleyball to a five-game victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University (27-30, 30-23, 27-30, 30-25, 15-12).
After hitting .394 in two conference wins this past weekend, Judkins compiled a .370 attack percentage and 12 kills. Watson hit the 20-kill mark for the second time in the last three matches, while adding 13 digs for a double-double.
Fairleigh Dickinson's Lauren Boothby did not make things easy for the Lady Jaspers as she recorded a match-high 22 kills, but Manhattan was able to prevail, getting big offensive contributions from
Rita Welsh and
Sherryta Stokes to compliment Judkins and Watson. Welsh notched 12 kills and five blocks, while Stokes had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs.
Sophomore setter
Alyssa Getzel continued to run Manhattan's offense to the tune of 50-plus assists. Her 53 helpers on Wednesday marked the third straight match she eclipsed the half century mark.
Junior
Ashley Watson led the Lady Jasper defense with 22 digs and now has 71 for her last three outings.
Manhattan makes its way to Western New York this weekend to take on Niagara University and Canisius College in two conference contests. First up are the Purple Eagles on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
