Jersey City, N.J. (October 22, 2006)-
John Ciano made a season-high nine saves, matching his career-high, but Manhattan dropped a 5-0 decision on the road vs. Saint Peter's this afternoon. Saint Peter's posted the win for the sixth time in its last seven games, while Manhattan could not duplicate the effort that earned the Jaspers a 3-1 win over local and MAAC rival Iona in their last game.
Manhattan came out aggressively, tallying four shots and forcing Peacocks goalie Matthew Lawlor to make two saves over the first 11 minutes of play, as shots on net by
Dan Cipriano and
Mike Barbuto did not find the back of the net.
Saint Peter's would hold off the early challenge, then score two tallies over the remainder of the opening stanza to go into the break with a 2-0 lead.
The Peacocks would increase the offensive pressure in the second half, posting a 14-5 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes. Ciano tallied six of his nine saves in the second half; as the Jaspers played a man down for the last 31:30 of the match after a Manhattan player was issued a red card.
John Dellipriscoli led the Jasper offense with two shots on goal.
Anthony Cacciola also tallied two shots.
Manhattan concludes the season this coming weekend, closing out MAAC play with games at Loyola on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before ended the season at Rider on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
