Riverdale, N.Y. (October 15, 2006)-The defending MAAC Champion Siena Saints proved to be too much for Manhattan Volleyball on Sunday afternoon at Draddy Gym. Behind an attack that hit .322 for the match, the Saints swept the Lady Jaspers and halted Manhattan's home winning streak at three.
Siena freshman Burgundy McCurty looked like anything but a rookie on Sunday afternoon. McCurty did not commit a single error in 26 attack attempts and finished with a match-high 13 kills. Siena senior Christie Gustafson also had a notable performance highlighted by 12 kills.
Manhattan senior co-captain
Whitney Judkins was Manhattan's most productive player on the offensive side of the ball with 12 kills and a .231 hitting percentage.
As a whole, the Lady Jaspers were inefficient on offense, hitting just .107. Manhattan, however, did limit its mistakes in the service game. In their last three home matches prior to today's contest, all three of which were Manhattan victories, the Lady Jaspers averaged 20 service errors per match. Against Siena, however, the Lady J's missed only five serves.
Manhattan sophomore
Sherryta Stokes, who was celebrating her 20th birthday on Sunday, just missed out on a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 10 digs.
The Lady Jaspers, who fall to 7-14 overall and 4-6 in MAAC play, have an opportunity to rebound on Friday, October 20, when they face MAAC rival Rider University in Draddy Gym.
